Rikka Isurugi has spent her life training in the way of the ninja with her grandfather Hyoe while following in the footsteps of her father, the esteemed researcher Allen. His work has culminated in a set of cutting- edge drones equipped with artificial intelligence and incredible technical capabilities; although Allen plans to develop these drones for civilian use, there are others who have more sinister ideas in mind. On Rikka's 16th birthday, things are forever changed when a paramilitary group raids the Isurugi house in search of the drone technology, killing Allen and Hyoe while Rikka manages to escape with the drones. Months pass, and Rikka is now an ordinary girl working as a private detective while sharing an apartment with another girl, Melissa. But when night falls, she dons her grandfather's fox mask and mercilessly hunts down those responsible for the attack. With the anger she felt that day driving her forward, Rikka will not rest until her family's killers receive the justice that they deserve. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
If you want to know how to make the most unoriginal movie possible then look no further, this is it!
After her family is attacked by an “Evil Corporation” Rikka Isurugi decides to track them down in order to get revenge and stop them from doing evil things. To her help she got three robot pets like with most characters, only exists to be convenient later on.
Like I said this movie is very unoriginal. If you have seen a lot of anime or movies in general, then nothing in this movie will surprise you at all. Which made this movie (at least to me) much less enjoyable since it was very predictable. It’s not like it has to be 100% original for it to be good, but when you can use it as a checklist for cliche movie tropes it becomes a problem.
Not even mentioning that it doesn’t have a proper conclusion so if they don’t make a sequel then this whole movie was pretty pointless.
Art and Animation:
Visually this movie is pretty great.
Not a big fan of the cutesy character designs but many of the backgrounds were pretty detailed and it’s apparent that they put some time in to make the locations feel more lived in. [7/10]
The animation was great in the action sequences, very fluid and stylized which made for some good eye candy. When it’s not a fight scene it’s alright for movie standards but nothing that impressive. There is also some cgi that doesn’t look very good, but I’ve seen much worse so it didn’t annoy me that much. [7/10]
Every single character feels very underdeveloped. There are a few scenes where there is a glimpse of character growth to the main characters, but it never feels earned. I blame that on the movies short length and I think it should have been a lot longer to flesh out the characters so that there is a reason to care about them. Some of the secondary characters like Rikka’s robot pets and her roommate is like I said previously, only there because it’s convenient and they have no reason for existing besides that.
But I kinda liked this movies villain. Not because he is a good villain but because he is so over the top it’s impossible to take him seriously. So I always had a good laugh whenever he was on screen. [3/10]
The music is solid but like most things in this movie feels very uninspired and didn’t leave any impressions. It is fittingly used for the emotions the scenes it’s used in is trying to convey while not becoming distracting, but it didn’t add anything unique or memorable to the movie. [6/10]
The voice acting was solid and it’s sounds like they did their best with what they had to work with. Overall nothing spectacular but serviceable. [6/10]
I was bored most of the time while watching because of how predictable it was, but there were a few scenes that made me laugh because of how cheesy it could be. Visually pretty pleasing but I didn’t feel any tension in the fights because of the forgettable characters. Overall it wasn’t very entertaining but the fact that the movie was so short didn’t make it too unbearable. [4/10]
There is so much more you can use 90 minutes on that’s not this.
Watch it if you want because like I said it has great animation at times. But I would recommend that you watch something else or spend time with your family. You will probably find more entertainment that way.
